You can submit your state park event via email to get it placed on the calendar. The Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to Washington state parks and state-managed recreation lands.     Learn about bats in general, how they help us, and what we can do to help them. Focus on native bats of Washington, especially the little brown bat. Kids can make a bat craft.

    Park staff present a 30-minute interpretive program about the Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridges. Beyond a discussion of the bridges’ architecture and history, visitors will discover the cultural significance of these iconic spans and their connection to the park’s natural resources. People of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  2. Guided hikes

    August 10, 2019, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Deception Pass State Park

    Park staff will lead a family-friendly, hour-long, .9-mile hike along the North Beach Trail, during which hikers will learn about the Deception Pass forests. This one-way hike leaves from the West Beach Amphitheater and ends at the North Beach parking lot. Visitors may leave a car to shuttle or hike round trip. People of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  3. Discovery Center hands-on activities

The art is the process that allows the material to be seen, acknowledged and dialogued with. Paint, pastels, and markers are the media. No art experience necessary--equally appropriate for all skill levels.

Iconic mascots and images come and go, but Smokey and his one clear message, "Only you can prevent wildfires," has stood the test of time (75 years to be exact). Please bring your lunch as we have a guided discussion about the benefits and challenges of wildfires and what we are doing in Washington state for future fires.

    This family-friendly evening program is geared toward children of all ages. Each program will include an interactive craft or activity and lasts approximately one hour. Meet at the amphitheater beside the CCC kitchen shelter/across from swings.     Geology is cool! Come learn about some of the coolest geology in Washington state right here in the San Juan Islands. Learn why Mt. Constitution is so tall, what it is made of and how we know that Orcas Island was almost buried in ice 16,000 years ago. This talk will be led by Julia Turney, a geologist who lives on Orcas Island. The talk is geared toward ages 16 and older but some hands-on elements may appeal to younger visitors.
